Fear

One of the stops on my first world trip was Darwin, Australia. While there, I learned about an opportunity to experience authentic aboriginal life. I signed up enthusiastically. Among the activities were bird watching, turtle hunting, finding water in the dry season, and snake hunting. Pictured here are some photos from the snake hunting activity. The two Western Guides and aborigine guide did the actual snake hunting in the mud while an Italian couple and I looked on and handled the gray file snakes before cooking them.

We ate the snake in the photo and others that we captured. The snakes were killed the traditional way, by putting its head in your mouth and breaking its neck by biting down. These gray file snakes tasted rubbery and kind of like chicken. At the time I thought, "eat away your fears!" Now, just the opposite, I overcome fears by letting them go, not suppressing them with food & drink. I've overcome many fears by confronting them too, but now, that is not even necessary.

I did have fear at that time of holding the snake - do I still have that same fear now? I have not had a snake encounter since then, but I can say that my fear of many things has either gone away or been almost eliminated, by gauging my internal and external reaction when I am around girls (!), threatening animals (angry large dogs for example), and various kinds of people and situations.

Animals can smell fear, and they take advantage of that. They also react to our body vibration (What some may call 'nervousness'). By altering these ("properties") in myself, I have altered how animals and people react to me instinctively. If I'm ever around a large python or venomous cobra, maybe someone will be around to snap a photo of my reaction!

You may see reports in the media of how we are "wired due to evolution" to be afriad of this or that, I will say with enough knowledge of one's own mind & body and our past, many of these "assumptions" you can prove wrong yourself.

Media Exposure

clip from BBC: Phobias documentary

I would take issue with some of the analysis in the video to the right, but it is a good example of how what we watch can affect us over time. There are many claims about what is good for us and what is not, perhaps the video to the right will help you make an informed opinion.

One result of all this traveling, knowledge acquisition, and testing of "myself" was learning the reasons we become fearful, and how to eliminate fears inside of us. Not overcoming fear with "courage," but eliminating our fears -- as if they never existed.

Also, we don't just learn fear as shown in this mini video clip, we can learn ANY emotion. In the future I would like to add an entire MIND section similar to the HEALTH section that is already on this website using pre-existing material I have collected over the years and maintained on what is now an internal intranet.

What if you knew how to overcome customer objections (fear) better? What if your sales & marketing team knew how to project less fear and make your customers more comfortable with your products & services? What if you could overcome your organizational fear of doing new things? My knowledge of the mind and emotions could help.
