Reasons why I chose to live in Medellin, Colombia

Weather

Even though it is near the equator, Medellin enjoys a spring-like climate year round due to its altitude of ~1500 m / 5000 ft

It's nicknamed the City of Eternal Spring. Pictured here are cable cars (Metrocable) that form part of the extensive Metro system.

Transportation

Medellin's public transit system is renown for its efficiency and multimodal coverage. I didn't need to own a car.

One low cost ticket means you can ride the whole system, including the cable cars, which provide a great panorama of the city and a view over people's homes!

Architecture

Even though the annual rainfall level is 65 inches, most all public buildings are built open to the outdoors.

Here is a mall that is open to the elements, yet still protected. There is even a mall with TWO retractable roofs like a sports stadium!

People

Take a cab in the city and you are likely to be engaged in friendly conversation. No English? Spanglish!

There is an annual festival where people carry elaborate flower displays on their backs in a parade, 70%+ of the flowers bought in the USA come from Colombia.

Travel Home Base

Medellin was my home base for 5 years. I still traveled to other places in the world to learn new things and due to time restrictions on my visa.

This open to the outdoor dining area is located at Plaza San Fernando. More info in the - Life in Colombia - section.
